Top 50 of 2005

The results!

This one is a little bit different from the other years in the Top 50 singles site. The main reason being, due to a lack of motivation from yours truly, in 2005, I didn't do the poll. I held off until 2009, when I decided I could take it no longer and deigned to go back and plug the gap. So, some 4 years after the event, I asked the voting faithful to cast their minds back, and vote. And 61 people duly did, so thanks to all that did. It's a lower turnout than we've had for a while, but then we attempted to do this in the summer, which may have thrown a few.

Correspondingly, the voting being some 4 years later may well have changed some people's opinions from what they would have had at the end of 2004, but I'll get back to that in my commentary at the end.

How was the list compiled?

The results were sorted out as follows. Your votes were submitted into a database, containing all the songs. I then simply got the database to tot up the totals and compile the chart. The scoring system remains the same as previous years, the old tried and trusted "10 points for a number 1 vote, down to 1 point for a number 10 vote" system. Because the chart itself is compiled by sorting the list of songs by the following criteria (in order of importance, the subsequent criteria used if there was a tie):

Ooh, I don't think that's correct....

I've given it all the once over, but it's not outside the bounds of possibility that a cock-up has snuck in, so if you think there's an error, do let me know - I'll check it out, and rectify it if needed.

So, it's 4 years late, but at last....

How about hearing them all in Spotify?

Yes, well, it's 2009 after all. If you've got Spotify, then you can enjoy (virtually) all the songs on the Top 50 singles of 2005 playlist I've created, in good old 50 to 1 format. And now it is entirely complete too!If you find omissions, let me know and I'll try and add them!
